Aerial footage shows the extent of damage caused by deadly wildfires spreading across the country Chilekilling at least 18 people.

More than 20 fires broke out across Chile on Sunday (January 18), forcing more than 50,000 people to evacuate, after Chilean President Gabriel Boric declared a “state of disaster” in the country.

The video, filmed in Penco, a coastal town in the Bio Bio region about 500 kilometers south of Santiago, shows destroyed property, charred land and emergency services at the scene.

Officials warned the death toll could rise as rescuers reach rural areas.
