atmosphere
Colonial Mediterranean décor – high ceilings, wicker-backed chairs and shutters – make the hotel look older than its 15 years, but the rooms and facilities are impeccably maintained, giving it a fresh, airy feel. It has a luxurious yet laid-back feel, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking relaxation and relaxation, such as honeymooning couples and families.
The secluded location, away from tourist hotspots and noisy roads, helps create a sense of tranquility, allowing guests to relax by the huge infinity pool or lounge on the balcony overlooking the sparkling sea.
Serve
The staff are truly outstanding – friendly, approachable and always go out of their way to ensure guests enjoy their stay as pleasant as possible. Their enormous efforts to recover a lost pair of sunglasses – at a time when I had almost given up hope of ever seeing them again – deserve a special mention. On top of that, most of the staff are from Langkawi, so the advice and tips they’re happy to share come from their experiences living on the island as locals.
bed and bath
The Danna’s 123 guest rooms are spacious even on the entry level and continue the colonial architectural style, with dark wood furnishings and soft neutral tones.
All rooms have balconies with views of the gardens, marina or sea, the latter perfect for watching the beautiful sunset over the Andaman Sea. The beds are so big you could get lost in them, and all rooms come with thoughtful touches like homemade biscuits, Nespresso machines and well-stocked minibars.
The marble bathrooms are particularly impressive, with huge deep baths (some rooms also have Jacuzzis) and custom Jo Loves toiletries. There are also 10 beachfront villas with private infinity pools and direct access to the white sand beach and crystal clear sea.

If there’s one thing that makes the incredibly comfortable beds at the Dana Hotel even better, it’s the unique breakfast the hotel offers. Even the most frequent guests of luxury hotels will be impressed by the Asian and European cuisine served every morning, as well as gourmet meals from the open kitchen so guests can watch the chefs at work.
Highlights are the Malaysian dishes: soft, buttery grilled meat paired with small bowls of fragrant curry, and the obligatory nasi lemak, Malaysia’s national dish. It’s hard to resist.
As for the evening menu, there are three restaurants on site, each offering their own unique gastronomic experience. The hotel’s main restaurant, Planter’s, offers European and Asian dishes, while Straits & Co offers light snacks and afternoon tea, as well as traditional Peranakan cuisine, elegantly presented and rich in flavour.
Other venues, including The Terrace Italian Restaurant and casual pool cafe, serve Italian cuisine, seafood, pizza and snacks by the water.
facility
One of the most eye-catching features is the Danna’s three-story infinity pool. With the panoramic view of the Andaman Sea as your backdrop and comfortable lounge chairs surrounding it, it’s the perfect place to start or end your day, sip a cocktail and watch the sunset. There’s also a secluded beachfront, essentially a private beach, where guests can enjoy a variety of water sports, including paddleboarding and even electric pedal boats.
Located upstairs with tree-lined views, the spa offers treatments such as soothing aromatherapy, deep tissue massage and hot stone treatments.
The hotel has a well-equipped gym with modern cardio and free weights equipment, while the library and games room offer quieter ways to relax with a book or a game of billiards.

Is it family friendly?
The Dana would certainly suit families well, although it leans more toward luxury than family-centricity. There is an impressive children’s club here called The Danna Jr. Club, which offers activities such as crafts, games and sports for children aged 4 to 11 years old, allowing parents to get some down time while the children have fun. There is also a separate children’s pool next to the main pool, perfect for younger swimmers.
