An audio clip was going viral today claiming that President Trump is backing out of $2,000 stimulus checks.
But…is it true?
Well, I’ve got it right here for you so we can listen to it together and then I’ll tell you what I think.
See here:

Okay, so let’s start with an actual transcript.
Sometimes it helps to see all the words written below.
So let’s start here:
Reporter: You promised to give Americans $2,000 checks based on their tariff revenue. When can they-
Trump: I did that? When did I do that? Well, I mean, you—you’re—yeah, I’m thinking. Well, I served for the army in 1776, right?
Reporter: When will those Americans get these-
TRUMP: Well, I’m going to – the tariff money is so big, that’s coming, that I’ll be able to do 2,000 at some point, I would say, by the end of the year.
So, here are my thoughts – you are of course free to have your own, as always.
One, the beginning strikes me as more of a miscommunication or Trump being distracted or not really hearing the question correctly.
Two, when he finally gets on the same page with the reporter and begins to understand the question, he confirms that he still plans to have a $2,000 check at the end of the year, though I expect those to come sometime before the midterms.
Three, as stated above, I think either he didn’t hear or understand the question well initially, or perhaps he was a little tired at that moment. The man sleeps less than 4 hours at night and although he enjoys it and loves every moment, he still has the pressure of the whole world on his shoulders. Since he immediately corrected his earlier response and confirmed that the checks were still arriving, I think it’s fair to give him some grace and a pass in the initial mess.
Scott Besant has also confirmed that checks are coming, and here are the initial details:
JUST IN: Income tiers released showing who will be eligible for $2,000 stimulus checks
For the past few days, rumors have been circulating about $2,000 stimulus checks/dividend checks/tariff checks that will soon be issued to the American public.
But details have been scarce.
To date, President Trump had said he would not go after “higher-income families,” but it was unclear how that would be defined.
Today Scott Besant gave us even more details.
While Besant shows less confidence than President Trump in actually seeing these checks go out, she did reaffirm the definition of who will be eligible as “households earning less than $100,000.”
He also reminded us of two other big details…
A: A huge tax refund is coming in 2026.
Two: The new $1,000 stock market accounts for all new babies born in the United States.

“The $2K exemption – this would be for households making less than $100,000. We have not [decided]. It is under discussion.”
“The other thing – what we did with the tax bill is funding the President’s tips, no tax on overtime – the big refunds you’ll see are a result of that. It’s another payment to the American people.” 🇺🇸
He also confirmed that soon the prices of everything will start decreasing very rapidly.

Those who are against tariffs are idiots! We are now the richest, most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation, and record stock market values. 401k is the highest it has ever been.
We are borrowing trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying off our massive debt, $37 trillion. Record investment in the United States, with plants and factories popping up everywhere.
Each person will be paid a dividend of at least $2000 (not including high earners).
Trump: “If I didn’t have tariffs, the whole world would be in recession.”

hill Noted that Congress may have to approve new tariff dividends:
President Trump said Sunday that every American will get at least $2,000 from tariff revenue collected by the administration.
“Everyone will be given a dividend of $2000 per person (high-income earners will not be included!),” the president said on his Truth social platform. He said that people who oppose tariffs are “idiots”!
Such a proposal would likely need to be passed by Congress. This summer, Republican Senator Josh Hawley (Mo.) introduced legislation to extend a $600 tariff rebate to nearly all Americans and their dependent children.
“My legislation will allow hard-working Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” Hawley said at the time.
However, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told CNBC in August that the administration’s priority is to pay down the $38.12 trillion national debt using tariff revenues.
