Donald Trump insisted on Sunday night that the United States was “responsible” in Venezuela U.S. troops overthrow Nicolás Maduro weekend.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that his administration was “dealing with people who were just sworn in,” appearing to refer to acting President Delcy Rodriguez.

“Don’t ask me who’s responsible, because I’m going to give you an answer, and it’s going to be very controversial,” Trump said as he flew back to Washington, D.C., from Florida.

Asked what he meant, Trump responded: “It means we’re in charge. We’re in charge.”

Trump said that while he had not yet spoken with the acting president, he would do so “at the appropriate time.”

He also claimed that Rodriguez was “cooperating” with the White House following the removal of Maduro, who is due to appear in a New York court on Monday.

“Venezuela is a dead country right now. We have to bring it back and we have to get the oil companies to make massive investments to restore infrastructure that is ready to go,” Trump added.

The president also said Rodriguez needs to give the United States “full access” to its oil industry.

“We need full access. We need access to oil and other things in their countries that allow us to rebuild their countries,” Trump said.

He told reporters that Rodriguez would face a worse situation than Maduro if he did not cooperate, without elaborating on what that would look like.

Trump also claims Maduro is sending “every drug addict” in Venezuela to the U.S.

“Think of every drug addict who comes from Maduro’s country, which is not actually his country and is certainly no longer his country,” he said.

“Every drug user and dealer was sent to our country. Now we’re bringing them back.”

Trump also turned his attention to Venezuela’s neighbor Colombia, issuing a warning to its president, Gustavo Petro, claiming the country was “run by a sick man who likes to make cocaine and sell it to the United States.”

“He’s not going to do this for a long time,” Trump told reporters.

“He has cocaine factories and cocaine factories. He’s not going to do that.” Asked whether the United States would take action against Colombia, he said: “That sounds good to me.”
