External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday began a six-day visit to France and Luxembourg to discuss bilateral and global issues of mutual interest.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in Paris he will meet the French leadership and hold talks with Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot.

Jaishankar’s visit to France comes in the backdrop of growing global concerns over the US capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife in a military operation.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that Jaishankar and Barrot will discuss the progress made under the India-France strategic partnership and matters of global importance.

The two ministers are expected to prepare the ground for French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India next month to attend the AI summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI summit with Macron in Paris last February.

On Jaishankar’s engagements in Paris, the External Affairs Ministry said, the External Affairs Minister will also address the 31st edition of the French Ambassadors’ Conference.

Jaishankar will also visit Luxembourg, where he will hold discussions with Xavier Bettel, Foreign Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and other senior leaders.

Bettel is also the Deputy Prime Minister.

Jaishankar will also interact with members of the Indian community in Luxembourg.
