president of russia Vladimir Putin Sworn to victory Ukraine Despite a provocative speech by the President of the United States Donald Trumpto end war.
In his annual televised New Year’s address, Putin rallied the troops fighting in Ukraine, saying he believed in them and in victory in the war, which he sees as part of an existential struggle with the West.
Meanwhile, Trump is trying to broker an end to the nearly four-year conflict, Europe’s bloodiest since World War II, and the two sides’ negotiating positions remain far apart.
Wearing a black coat, Putin – whose troops are advancing slowly but steadily in Ukraine – talks about RussiaHe said that the destiny of the motherland and the unity of the people guarantee the sovereignty and security of the “motherland”.
He paid special tribute to the troops fighting in Ukraine, calling them heroes.
“I assure you that millions of people across Russia are spending this New Year’s Eve with you,” Putin said.
“They are thinking of you, sympathizing with you, and hoping for you. Happy New Year to all our soldiers and commanders! We believe in you and our victory!”
His remarks were first broadcast in Russia’s Far East after Russia released video footage of an alleged downed drone as evidence Ukraine attempted to attack presidential palace this week.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky called the claims “complete fabrications” and were intended to lay the groundwork for future attacks in Kiev and other parts of Ukraine.
“I’m sure they’re just preparing for a strike, maybe in the capital, maybe in government buildings,” he said.
Trump appeared swayed by Russia’s claims and said he was “very angry” at news of the attack.
In a separate video released on Wednesday, Russia’s top general told troops to continue opening buffer zones in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions, saying Moscow’s forces were advancing faster in December than in any other month in 2025.
Reuters could not confirm his battlefield claims.
