Officials are at Los Angeles The public is being asked to help identify a toddler who was found in a car in the city’s Highland Park section on Sunday.
The child, believed to be just two years old, was with a dog when police found him.
according to Los Angeles Police Department, Police were called to the scene after someone reported someone was trying to steal their car. The thief left the car before police arrived.
“The victim subsequently discovered a child approximately 2 years old and a dog left inside the victim’s vehicle,” a news release said. Police searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Officials said the dog appeared to be familiar with the child and is in the care of Los Angeles County Animal Services.
“Efforts to identify the child through all available means were unsuccessful and the uncustodial parent or family member contacted police to locate the child,” the statement added.
talking Los Angeles Broadcasting Corporation, Lt. Kevin Austin said the child was unable to tell police his name.
“Our biggest interest right now is to find his family and find out anything we need to know about him, including dietary needs, medical history,” Austin said.

“The child is described as a male with medium complexion, curly brown hair and was wearing a light gray quarter-zip sweater,” police said.
