Delhi: BJP strengthened its dominance in urban areas.
The Delhi election results cemented the BJP’s expansion in the national capital, with voters supporting the party’s governance-focused campaign and national leadership narrative. The decision is a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had dominated the capital’s politics for more than a decade.
The result prompted introspection within AAP on organizational cohesion, leadership focus and the future of its welfare-centric model beyond Delhi. For the BJP, the result strengthened its position and increased its appeal among the middle class and first-time voters.
In Delhi Assembly, BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, AAP was reduced to 22 seats and Congress did not get even a single seat. In a major setback for AAP, its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal lost the New Delhi seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by over 4,000 votes.
Vice Presidential Election (September 2025)
The post of the country’s second highest constitutional office also fell vacant after former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar announced his resignation citing health problems on July 21, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
Elections for this were held on 9 September. NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan won by securing 452 votes out of 752 valid votes, defeating opposition candidate former Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy.
Bihar: NDA gets broad, clear mandate
In Bihar, the election gave a clear and resounding verdict in favor of the NDA, which won a comfortable majority in the state. The results underlined the alliance’s strong organizational network, effective booth-level mobilization and the continued resonance of its leadership and welfare outreach.
NDA won 202 out of 243 seats. The opposition, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), won only 35 seats.
The decisive mandate left little room for post-poll maneuvering and confirmed the NDA’s dominance in the politically crucial Hindi belt. This also dealt a blow to the opposition parties, who failed to present a credible challenge.
Shock to new political experiments
Despite extensive campaigns and grassroots outreach, alternative political experiments were unable to convert visibility into votes, highlighting the difficulty of breaking down strong electoral structures without coalitions or deep organizational roots.
The BJP successfully brought all its allies with it, resulting in consolidation of votes and thus an overwhelming mandate.
Opposition unity under tension
Overall, the results in Delhi and Bihar have further weakened opposition unity at the national level. Repeated electoral setbacks have reduced the Congress’s lead within opposition alliances, while regional parties are preferring state-specific strategies over a unified national front.

The double victory has strengthened the political momentum of the BJP-led NDA for the next election cycle. The results reinforce the coalition’s governance-based campaign approach and its ability to capitalize on a fragmented opposition.

The 2025 results set the stage for a politically intense 2026, when elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam. Regional parties in the opposition will demand a larger share in the seat sharing due to the electoral performance of the Congress and the strength of its grassroots cadre.
