Biocon employee found dead in Bengaluru campus, investigation underway

A 26-year-old employee of biopharmaceutical firm Biocon was found dead on Tuesday. The body of S Ananth Kumar was found at the company premises on Hosur Road in Electronics City Phase II, Bengaluru. He reportedly died after falling from the fifth floor of the company building.

Kumar was a resident of Banashankari. As per PTI report, the engineering graduate worked in the finance department of Biocon Biologics Limited. Srinath, father of the deceased employee Kumar, is a temple priest.

The incident reportedly occurred around 5 pm when Kumar was talking on his mobile phone and then went to the rooftop of the cafeteria on the fifth floor before taking the extreme step. After the fall, Anant was taken to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead.

According to a police officer, no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. The exact cause of his death has not been known yet.

TOI quoted an investigating officer as saying, “The canteen is on the fifth floor of the building. Anant was seen talking on a mobile phone and coming out of the canteen. He went to the terrace and jumped. We did not find any death note. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.”

Following Kumar’s death, Biocon issued a statement expressing deep grief and condolences to the family. Biocon said that since the matter is still under investigation, they are unable to provide further details.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our employees in Bengaluru. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family at this extremely difficult time. As the matter is still under investigation by the authorities, we are unable to share further details at this stage,” the statement said.

A case has reportedly been registered at Parappana Agrahara police station. Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
