Ruben Amorim Despite ending a tumultuous 2025 with a disappointing home draw and a historically poor result, he remains confident of United’s potential this season Wolves.

Rob Edwards’ side arrive at Old Trafford on an 11-game winning streak Premier League The team has only 2 points from 18 games and is at the bottom of the table.

But Wolves grabbed their third point of the season when Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected opener was canceled out by Ladislav Krejci to draw 1-1 just three weeks after United’s 4-1 win at Molineux.

Bruno FernandezBrian Mbeumo and Mason Mount scored on the night but were among eight absentees for the sixth-placed Red Devils, who trail Liverpool by two points – with a game remaining – in the final Champions League places.

“I’m really confident,” boss Amorim said mid-campaign. “We just have to get all the players back and I’m really confident.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen until the season is over. Then we’ll resume the season.

“But I’m very confident that when we get all our players back, we’re going to be a strong team. There’s no doubt in my mind.”

United begin their 2026 campaign at rivals Leeds United on Sunday and Amorim said he “won’t put anyone at risk” by making existing problems worse.

But the Red Devils will be hoping to see the spark they lacked against Wolves, who made things difficult, leading to the Portuguese replacing goalscorer Zirkzee at half-time, replacing the injured Mount, for teenager Jack Fletcher.

Amorim confirmed the decision was “just tactical”, adding: “We need to do what the game demands.

“We struggled, they put a lot of men in midfield and Jack balanced that out for us. I thought we got the ball back quicker in the second half.

“In the first half, we had some trouble getting the ball back, so I’m just focusing on their age and experience. At this point, I’m just focusing on what I can do to win the game.”

United reverted to Amorim’s favored three-man defense after winning with a back four – a change of arrangement that Wolves boss Edwards had anticipated and prepared for.

The 43-year-old was proud of the effort of his players, who scored their first points since taking charge last month, and now turns his attention to Saturday’s clash with fellow struggling West Ham United.

“It’s nice to learn something from the game,” Edwards said. “I do feel like that’s the last thing we deserved. I really do. It’s improvement. Overall, it was a really good performance.”

Asked if his players could sense the unease from the United fans, Edwards said: “Yes, we discussed that at half-time.

“We say to the lads, even walking down the tunnel, ‘listen, listen’ because we know how difficult it is now to play in front of an unhappy crowd.

“It’s natural that we’re unhappy. I understand that, so I’m not going to complain about that.

“But, everyone was expecting a win tonight, maybe a comfortable win, but that wasn’t the case.

“I think they saw we created some chances and we performed well and were good value for money, so they won’t be happy. We have to try and exploit that. We talked about that at half-time.”
