a year full of industrial action Set to end with strike Security guard and railway cleaner beaten over payment dispute.
Around 300 members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union, which provides security at the Palace of Westminster, will go on strike on New Year’s Eve.
It will be their fourth day of strike this year as they continue to dispute pay, terms and conditions.
PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “The employer reduced an employee’s annual leave and falsely claimed the employee had agreed to it.
“The recent cash packages being offered to workers are nothing short of insulting.”
Docklands Light Rail (DLR) cleaning staff will also go on strike on New Year’s Eve over a separate wage dispute.
Eddie Dempsey, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, said: “DLR’s cleaning staff play a vital role in keeping London’s transport network safe, clean and beautiful.
“If we want to avoid such disruptions in 2026, TfL, which oversees outsourcing contracts, must bring these services back in-house and pay workers appropriate sick pay.”
This has added to ongoing strike action following a period of mass strikes under the previous Conservative government, despite the Labor government’s efforts throughout the year to repair industrial relations.
Long-running disputes in 2025 include those involving hospital doctors, Birmingham waste collectors and Hull train drivers.
