Israel said on Tuesday it would suspend more than two dozen humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Bordersfor failing to comply with new rules for scrutinizing international organizations working in this field Gaza.

The Department of Expatriate Affairs said organizations due to be banned on January 1 do not meet new requirements for sharing information about people, funding and operations. It accuses Doctors Without Borders, one of the largest health organizations operating in Gaza, of failing to clarify the roles of some staff whom Israel accuses of cooperating Hamas and other activist groups.

International organizations say Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could jeopardize staff safety. The ministry said about 25 organizations, or 15% non-governmental organization Permits to work in Gaza were not renewed.

Doctors Without Borders, known by its French abbreviation MSF, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Israel has previously accused its staff of participating in military activities in Gaza in 2024. At the time, the organization said it was “deeply concerned by these allegations and takes them very seriously.” The organization said it would never knowingly employ people engaged in military activities.

Israel and international organizations are at odds over the amount of aid to be provided to Gaza. Israel claims it is complying with its aid commitments set out in the latest ceasefire in the two-year war that took effect on October 10, but humanitarian groups have questioned Israel’s figures and say the ravaged Palestinian territory of more than 2 million people urgently needs more aid.
