Mumbai bus accident: BEST announces assistance of ₹2 lakh each to families of four victims

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking on Tuesday announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to the families. Four people died in a bus accident in Mumbai’s Bhandup area.,

The municipal corporation-run public transport body also ordered an immediate departmental inquiry into the December 29 incident, in which 10 people were injured.

The incident occurred when a wet-leased BEST bus collided with a pedestrian near Bhandup railway station.

According to a release issued by BEST, “While expressing condolences to the victims of this unfortunate accident, BEST undertakes to provide appropriate medical aid and assistance to those injured in the accident and expresses its condolences to the families of the deceased.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday night announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the legal heirs of each deceased.

BEST is providing proper medical treatment and support under its health initiatives. The release said that all necessary assistance will be provided to those undergoing treatment as per the existing norms.

It said BEST general manager Sonia Sethi has directed the assistant general manager (operations and engineering) to immediately investigate the accident through an internal departmental committee and submit a detailed report as soon as possible.
