Iran has vowed a harsh response after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened another attack on Iran’s weapons programmes.
Talk next to you Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on MondayTrump said the United States could support another strike against Iran if it resumes its nuclear weapons program or refuses to stop building ballistic missiles.
He said Tehran may be working to revive its weapons programs after the United States attacked three nuclear facilities in June. The attack was in support of Israel’s 12-day war against the Islamic Republic in June. Reportedly proved unsuccessful in destroying alleged nuclear weapons program.
“Now I’m hearing that Iran is trying to rise again, and if they do that, we’re going to have to knock them down. We’re going to knock them down. We’re going to beat the hell out of them,” Trump told reporters. “But hopefully that won’t happen.”
“I hear Iran wants to make a deal. If they want to make a deal, that’s a lot smarter,” the US president continued.
“You know, before we had a big attack on them last time, they could have made a deal. But, they didn’t, they decided not to make a deal. They wish they had made a deal. So, I think, again, they should make a deal.”
Trump’s comments were sharply condemned by an aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who warned that “any act of aggression will immediately face a harsh response beyond the imagination of its planners.”
Ali Shamkhani said Iran’s “missile capabilities and defense capabilities are not containable or permission-based.”

Trump said his talks with Netanyahu would focus on advancing the fragile Gaza ceasefire agreement he helped broker and addressing Israel’s concerns about Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Iran said last week it had conducted its second missile drill this month.
Netanyahu said last week that Israel was not seeking confrontation with Iran but was aware of the reports and would raise Tehran’s activities with Trump.
Trump claimed that the United States and Israel had “achieved a huge victory” over their enemies and that if the United States “does not defeat Iran, there will be no peace in the Middle East.”
Asked whether he would support Israel’s attack on Iran’s missile program, Trump said: “If they continue to use missiles, yes. Nuclear? Fast. Okay? One is: Yes, absolutely. The other is: We will do it immediately.”
Tehran has repeatedly denied seeking nuclear weapons and has refused to enter into any negotiations over its missile program, saying it is non-negotiable and vital to its defence.
