According to the IMD weather bulletin, dense to very dense fog is expected to continue over Himachal Pradesh till December 30, over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till December 31 and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh during night and morning hours on December 31 and January 1.
The IMD said fog is likely to persist over East Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh till December 29, Jammu division till December 30, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till December 31 and Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Odisha till January 1.
Cold wave and cold day alert
IMD has predicted cold wave conditions at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between December 28 and 30, with Jharkhand likely to experience similar conditions on December 28.
Cold day conditions are also expected at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on December 28, the department said.
Western disturbance may cause snowfall and rain
The IMD said a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from December 30.
Under its influence, scattered to moderate rain or snowfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas between December 30 and January 2, while scattered to moderate rain or snowfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the same period.
the temperature remains low
IMD data shows that minimum temperatures dropped below 5 degrees Celsius at many places in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and remained between 5-10 degrees Celsius over most parts of north and central India in the last 24 hours.
In the plains, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Rajgarh in western Madhya Pradesh at 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Sultanpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 13.1 degrees Celsius.
Delhi NCR weather forecast
For Delhi NCR, the IMD has predicted fog in the morning till December 30, with minimum temperatures ranging between 6-9 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures ranging between 21-24 degrees Celsius. Winds are expected to be light, mainly from the west and north-westerly areas.
