Children’s pocket money pay to rise in 2025 to curb inflation, data shows

According to anonymous data from GoHenry, young people receive an average of £10.73 a week in pocket money, an increase of around 8% on the £9.92 they would typically receive a week in 2024.

Data comes from National Bureau of Statistics The Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that consumer price index (CPI) inflation slowed to 3.2% in November from 3.6% in October.

girls GoHenry figures show boys receive slightly more weekly pocket money than boys. Girls typically earn around £10.81 a week, while boys earn £10.63 a week.

The highest-paying chore among GoHenry savers this year is tending to plants, with young green thumbs spending an average of £1.91. Performing well (£1.46) and practicing music (£1.44) came in second and third respectively.

Despite lower incomes, cleaning the bedroom is the most common task for children, who earn an average of £1.12.

The data is based on an analysis of thousands of accounts between January 1 and November 1, 2025.

Food shops and supermarkets are where children spend most of their money this year, research shows.

The most common piggy bank for kids is for holidays, with electronics coming in second and birthdays coming in third.

The study also looked at the average monthly contributions made by parents and other relatives to GoHenry Junior Isas.

Girls’ Junior Isas contributions are slightly lower at £27.85 per month, while the average Junior Isas contribution for boys is £28.56 per month.

Regionally, people in the south-east of England donate particularly heavily to GoHenry Junior Isas, with an average of £39 a month. On the other hand, people in Wales put an average of £20.67 into Junior Isas every month.

The data also shows that GoHenry’s young savers made small donations totaling £88,000 to the NSPCC via the app between January 1 and November 1, 2025.

Louise Hill, founder of GoHenry, said: “It’s great to see children not only getting an increase in their pocket money but also discovering the real value of earning, saving and giving back – this year they are showing a strong sense of caring for themselves and others.

“These small but powerful financial habits are building a lifetime of money confidence as well as a strong sense of community.”

Here are the average weekly allowances by child’s age in 2024 and 2025, according to GoHenry:

Six: £3.69, £4.05

Seven: £3.82, £4.25

Eight: £4.14, £4.58

Nine: £4.71, £5.14

10: £5.62, £6.02

11: £7.36, £7.83

12: £9.71, £10.42

13: £12.31, £13.36

14: £14.57, £15.84

15: £16.98, £18.18

16: £17.89, £19.67

17: £17.13, £18.74

18: £14.52, £16.60

According to GoHenry, here are the average weekly pocket money payments by region or country in the UK in 2024 and 2025:

East Midlands, £8.33, £10.26

East of England, £9.36, £8.88

London, £12.80, £10.31

North East, £8.84, £9.43

North West, £9.22, £10.27

Scotland, £10.54, £11.53

South East, £9.87, £14.30

South West, £8.70, £9.63

Wales, £8.64, £9.49

West Midlands, £8.24, £11.00

Yorkshire and Humber, £8.76, £9.42

According to GoHenry, here are the most common tasks kids will be rewarded for in 2025 and the average reward:

1. Tidy up your bedroom, £1.12

2. Preparation for school (including homework and studying), £1.35

3. Help with housework, £1.18

4. Look after yourself (including cleaning your teeth), £1.24

5. Pet care, £1.37

According to GoHenry, here are the top-paying tasks for children to be rewarded for in 2025, along with the average pay:

1. Caring for plants, £1.91

2. Be a good person, £1.46

3. Practice Music, £1.44

4. Pet care, £1.37

5. Get ready for school, £1.35
