Shravan Singh, a 10-year-old boy from Punjab’s Firozpur district, was honored with the Prime Minister’s National Child Award by President Draupadi Murmu on Friday, December 26. Shravan was honored for his extraordinary courage and compassion during Operation Sindoor. He risked his safety to serve the troops during operations conducted along the India-Pakistan border.

Who is Shravan Singh?

Shravan hails from Mamdot village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district.

Amidst all the risks associated with war during Operation Sindoor, ten-year-old Shravan came into limelight when he delivered water, tea, milk, ice and lassi to soldiers deployed at the border near his home in Ferozepur.

ANI quoted Shravan as saying, “When Operation Sindoor started against Pakistan, soldiers came to our village. I thought I should serve them. I used to take milk, tea, buttermilk and ice for them daily… I feel very good to be honoured. I had never even dreamed of it.”

India launched Operation Sindoor after 26 people lost their lives in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir in April.

Shravan is the youngest citizen to contribute to this operation. He has earned national recognition for his humanitarian efforts to support Indian Army soldiers in adverse border situations.

According to Indian Masterminds, Shravan’s family comes from a rural background, while his upbringing is based on the values ​​of discipline and patriotism. During Operation Sindoor, Shravan voluntarily provided humanitarian aid and assisted the soldiers during extreme heat and long duty hours.

Earlier this year, the Indian Army recognized Shravan as the ‘youngest civilian warrior’ during Operation Sindoor. Due to his dedication he received a special felicitation from Major General Ranjit Singh Manral, GOC of 7 Infantry Division.

At the time, his father Sona Singh told PTC News that the family never stopped Shravan from doing his work because he “found joy in serving in the army.”

“He continued to visit him regularly and that made us proud. He now dreams of becoming a soldier one day,” Singh said.

Shravan has also expressed his desire to serve in the army in future. He previously said, “I want to become a soldier when I grow up and serve the country. They gave me a special gift, gave me special food and even gave me ice cream. It made me very happy.”

Prime Minister’s National Children’s Awards are given to children for their extraordinary achievements. It serves as the highest civilian honor for children in the country. These awards, given annually, are given to children in the age group of 5-18 years for their extraordinary abilities and outstanding achievements in the categories of bravery; Arts and Culture; Environment; innovation; Science and Technology; social service; And sports.
