The Rajya Sabha MP alleged that the “mining mafia” is openly looting public resources and destroying the Aravalli hills, but they have no concern for the environment.
The Congress general secretary said the Enforcement Directorate has revealed that illegal mining in the Dadam hills of the Aravalli region has not only damaged the environment but also caused a loss of Rs 1,200 crore to the exchequer.
Recently, five people had lost their lives in a mining related accident in Tosham area, but it is alleged that no effective action was taken even after the tragedy, he said on Twitter.

He further alleged that about 383 hectares of land of Aravalli hills in Charkhi Dadri district is facing destruction due to illegal mining and it is continuing under political patronage.
Surjewala said the local people are living in fear due to the night-long mining activity, noise of heavy machinery and constant movement of vehicles. Cracks were appearing in houses and people were feeling shocks, but complaints were being ignored, he alleged, criticizing the BJP government for failing to stop illegal mining and endangering both the environment and people’s lives.
