Emergency services were sent to the Devon beach Christmas Concerns were expressed for individuals living in the water day after day.
Police Confirmed he was called to Budleigh Salterton at 10am. Several people have since been brought safely to shore and are awaiting assessment by paramedics, Devon and Cornwall Police Said.
A spokesperson said: “Coast Guard And RNLI teams are continuing search efforts in the water.
“A large number of emergency services personnel are responding to this incident and we request that for public safety reasons people do not enter the water along this part of the coast while this incident is ongoing.”
Earlier on Thursday, police had asked people not to enter the water and stay away from the area.
They immediately asked the public not to take part in Christmas Day swimming in Exmouth while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Many Christmas and Boxing Day swims were canceled in Devon and Cornwall this year due to yellow weather warnings for wind.
In a statement, the Coast Guard confirmed that it was alerted about the incident at around 10 am on Thursday.
A spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard is responding to reports of people in difficulty in the water at Budleigh Salterton today, December 25.
“Alerted at around 10am, Exmouth and Bear coastguard rescue teams, RNLI lifeboats from Exmouth, Teignmouth and Torbay and coastguard search and rescue helicopters were dispatched to the scene to assist, along with police and the ambulance service.”
The RNLI said lifeboats from Exmouth, Torbay and Teignmouth were assigned to the incident.

It says maximum gusts will reach 45-55 mph, but may reach 55-65 mph on some exposed ridges and west of major hills.
Forecasters said there could be disruptions to transportation and power supplies.
