The FBI also sought information about Andrew’s ties to pedophile financier Epstein and his associates. Ghislaine MaxwellWho was jailed for 20 years for her role in buying young girls for abuse by the billionaire.
Following his arrest, Epstein died in his prison cell in July 2019, with US officials citing his cause of death as suicide.
In requesting an interview, the document states: “Additionally, documentary evidence uncovered during this investigation has revealed information that suggests Prince Andrew was aware that Maxwell recruited women to engage in sexual acts with Epstein and other men.”
Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing or having any knowledge of Epstein’s sexual crimes.
In One of four emails released as part of the “Epstein Files” On Tuesday, August 2001, in a message sent to Maxwell by someone known as “The Invisible Man”, the sender told the now convicted sex trafficker that his “servant” had recently died and he had “quit the RN”.
Andrew had left the Royal Navy a month before the email was sent.
Another email from the same person, dated 16 August 2001, said they were at “Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family”, before asking Maxwell: “Have you met some of my inappropriate friends?”
In March 2002, an email from Maxwell to “The Invisible Man” stated that he had sent a message to an unknown person, beginning with: “I have just given Andrew your telephone number.”
Maxwell’s message to the unidentified person also stated that he would be “very happy” if “Andrew” would do some “two-legged visual philosophy”.
Maxwell’s message read: “He can ride but it’s not his favorite sport i.e. passing on horses.
“Some sightseeing, some two-legged sightseeing (read intelligent, lots of fun and from nice families) and he’ll be very happy.
“I know I can count on you to show her an amazing time and that you will only introduce her to friends she can trust and who you can trust and will be friendly, discreet, and fun.
“He doesn’t want to read in the newspapers about any trip and who or what he saw.”
Photographs previously released by the Justice Department showed Andrew introducing Epstein to British high society – including a shooting trip to Balmoral and a visit to the royal box at Ascot.
Andrew resigned from royal duties in 2019 after his disastrous ordeal newsnight interview, but the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir and the release of documents from Epstein’s estate by the US government brought greater scrutiny to her relationship with the financier.
This led the king to officially strip his disgraced brother of both his HRH style and his title of prince.
US politicians have criticized Andrew’s “silence” after he missed last month’s deadline to respond to their request to sit down for an interview about Epstein.
He paid millions in 2022 to settle a civil sexual harassment claim against Ms Giuffre, whom he claims he never met.
