Just hours before the big day, the Met Office has announced its decision Will White Christmas be celebrated in Britain this year?

Although the Met Office has cast doubt on the prospects of a White Christmas for most people, there is a slight chance that some snow may fall on Dartmoor, as parts of Devon and Cornwall are treated to afternoon showers on Christmas Day.
Overall, the national weather picture for the Christmas period points to cool weather but blue skies.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell said: “It will be colder with strong winds across much of England and Wales by Christmas Eve, so temperatures on thermometers will be slightly below average: highs generally around 6C or 7C.
“And then when you add that cold easterly wind, it will probably feel colder than Christmas Eve.
“It’s a little cooler than average, that’s not unusual for the time of year, but in terms of average, it would be a little below average.”
Despite the cool end to the year, 2025 could still be the UK’s hottest year on record. The average temperature so far for the year, as of December 21, is well ahead of the previous high set in 2022.
The average temperature is currently expected to stabilize at 10.05C, with 2022 already at a record-breaking 10.03C. If confirmed, 2025 will be only the second year in the observational record where the UK annual average temperature has risen above 10C.

According to the Met Office, the weather on Wednesday evening will be generally dry and cloudy, with a possibility of clear weather in the far south and west. There is a possibility of a southerly wind with some fog in northern Scotland.

Thursday’s forecast will be mainly dry with mild sunshine across the country. Cloudy conditions are expected in the north-east, and dense cloud may give scattered showers in western Cornwall. Forecasters say it will be generally cold everywhere with windy conditions in the south.

The weather will remain largely dry and settled through Boxing Day and beyond into the weekend. The latest outlook from the Met Office shows there are likely to be some clear or sunny spells, and it will remain cold and windy in the south.
