Stunned bystanders capture the moment a boat plunges into a canal 160 feet sinkhole In Shropshire On Monday (22 December).
Emergency services declared a major incident after receiving reports of a sinkhole opening in the early hours of the morning, as millions of gallons of water washed into a farmer’s field in the chemicals area of Whitchurch.
Footage filmed after the ditch opened up showed the boat overturning on the edge of the sinkhole. A crack in the hull can be heard before the boat goes under.
Two boats ended up in the sinkhole, while two others lurched to either side.
More than a dozen sailors had to be rescued after an “embankment failure”. According to the police, there is no news of any casualty.
