New Delhi:
A 14-year-old schoolgirl in Karnataka committed suicide after allegedly being harassed by a teacher who suspected her of stealing Rs 2,000. The girl’s family reported to police that the girl was driven to commit the tragedy due to the distress caused by the incident at school.
Teacher Jayashree Mishrikoti and principal KH Mujawar of Bagalkot Government High School were accused of molesting the girl. The act allegedly stemmed from Jayashree’s suspicion that the child had stolen Rs 2,000 from her wallet.
She allegedly told the eighth-grader that she would be expelled if found guilty.
Some reports also claim the girl was strip-searched, but police say no evidence has been found.
The incident did not come to light until the victim’s sister told her parents about the harrowing incident after the funeral.
The girl’s body was found on March 16, police said.
Officials said the girl hanged herself to death on March 15 because her parents were not at home.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
