An 88-year-old Seattle woman was so brutally attacked in her own backyard last month that the suspect bit off her finger before fleeing with her jewelry. According to Seattle Police.
This dreadful attack took place in broad daylight on 13 October. Emma Cotton was working behind her home in Rainier Beach when a man she said she did not recognize approached her from the street and demanded she hand over her belongings.
Cotton later told fox13 She couldn’t understand what he was saying — and when she turned to walk back toward the house, she said he attacked her and pulled her into the garage where the attack continued.
Cotton says she kept screaming during the beating, hoping nearby neighbors would hear. The attacker stole several pieces of jewelry, including a ring that he cut off from her finger.
“When he cut off my finger and I told him, I said it’s the lowest thing you can do, and I said how would you feel if someone cut off your grandmother or your mother’s finger,” she said.
Officers from the King County Sheriff’s Office as well as police in Seattle, Burien, Tukwila responded to the home and searched the area, but the suspect, described as being in his 30s, had fled.
The suspect is still absconding after almost two months. Seattle Police and Crime Stoppers have released photos of the suspect and are offering up to $1,000 for tips leading to his arrest.
Hospitalized with broken bones and severe head injuries, Cotton was unable to walk for several weeks. he told fox13 The trauma landed him in the hospital, where nightmares hindered his recovery.
She further said that she has forgiven the man and hopes that he will repent for his actions.
“You can have someone come in and attack your own property while you’re working in your yard,” Cotton said. “No one gave him this right.”
