Police seized 72 firearms from the home of French screen legend Alain Delon, who did not have any firearms license, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
Police also found more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition and a shooting range at the actor’s country home in Douchy-Montcorbon, about 135 kilometers (84 miles) south of Paris.
District prosecutor Jean-Cedrix Gaux said the 88-year-old Delon “was not authorized to possess a firearm.”
The star played gun-toting gangsters in some of his best-known films, including “Borsalino,” and is credited with creating the Hollywood image of the mysterious brainiac in the 1967 film “Samurai.”
DeLong has been in poor health since suffering a stroke in 2019 and has recently been at the center of an escalating family feud.
A search was ordered after court-appointed officers went to the home, found weapons and notified a judge.
Delon has rarely appeared on screen since the 1990s, with his last public appearance being the honorary Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
However, he did attend the funeral of his friend and star Jean-Paul Belmondo in Paris in September 2021.
Last month, DeLong’s youngest son filed a complaint against his sister, accusing her of taking advantage of DeLong’s weakness.
Deron’s eldest son Antoine Deron told Paris Match magazine that his father was in a “weak” state as the feud became public.
DeLong Sr. said through his lawyer that he was “shocked” and would file a defamation lawsuit.
Concerns were first raised last year when his three children filed a complaint against his former live-in assistant Hiromi Rollin, accusing her of harassment and threatening behaviour.
DeLong is estimated to be worth millions of dollars. In June, he sold about 80 works of art at auction for more than 8 million euros ($8.7 million)
