7 missing after two Japanese military helicopters crash: report

Tokyo, Japan:

Seven crew members are missing after two Japanese military helicopters were involved in an apparent accident near the coast on Sunday night, local media reported.

The helicopters appeared to have crashed during a night training exercise on the Izu Islands in the Pacific on Saturday night, NHK reported.

Reports said one person was rescued.

Contact with a helicopter was lost at 10:38 pm (1338 GMT), and around 25 minutes later authorities realized that contact with a second aircraft had also been lost.
