60-year-old 'French Spider-Man' climbs mountain without safety gear

Alain Robert started rock climbing in 1975, training on cliffs near his hometown.

A 60-year-old man’s daring act of climbing a mountain without safety equipment has attracted attention online. Alain Robert was a French rock climber, known as the “French Spider” or “The Human Spider” because of his feats.

Mr. Robert made the “impossible possible” by attempting a solo climb in France’s Verdon Gorge Canyon.

The French climber posted a video of the brave act on his official Instagram page on Monday.

The video begins with Mr Robert standing on a mountain climb.

Mr Robert was wearing only a red sleeveless T-shirt and black trousers and was not using any safety equipment.

The text on the video reads: “At 60 years old, still free climbing in Verden, making the impossible possible.”

The video shows him climbing through narrow openings at various distances.

He held the holes with his hands and feet and walked up the mountain step by step.

He shared the video along with a note in which he claimed that “free climbing” was not a sport for him, but rather “a path in life.”

Sharing the video, he wrote: “At 60 years old, I still think the way I did when I was younger and I still strive to make the impossible possible. Free climbing has always been a big part of my life. Like a life path , rather than a real sport. A philosophy closely related to courage.”
