Six Maoists, including two women cadres, were killed in clashes with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, a police official said.

The gunbattle took place in the forest area along the Talperu river near Chipurbhatti village under Basaguda police station jurisdiction when a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Maoist operation, Bastar Range Police Superintendent Sundarraj P told PTI. .

The operation, involving personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Force for Resolute Action), was launched based on information about the presence of the Naxalites of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army. “After the exchange of fire ceased, the bodies of six Naxalites, including two women, along with a large quantity of weapons and explosives, were recovered from the site,” the Inspector General said.

He added that many other Maoists were reportedly injured in the gunbattle and search operations in the area were still ongoing.

Bijapur district is located in the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which will go to polls in the first phase of the general election on April 19.
