6 attempts, 5 interviews…that’s how UPSC passed and the success story of this IFS officer is inspiring.

They say that with determination, nothing is difficult and IFS Amit Ghemawat’s UPSC journey is also a story of this passion. The inspiring story of Amit Ghemawat, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of the 2020 batch, is a role model for all those UPSC aspirants who give up after just one or two attempts. While studying in the College of Engineering and teaching there, his dream of passing UPSC came true, let us know what efforts he put behind it.

Amit took 6 attempts in his UPSC journey. To this end, he has succeeded in preliminaries many times. Called and interviewed five times. But he never let his courage dim in the face of failure. Inspired by the same passion, his younger brother Shishir also passed UPSC and was selected for IAS service. In a conversation with the website, Amit Ghemawat shares his journey and narrates how he achieved success through courage throughout his journey.

Amit’s father, a resident of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, is a criminal lawyer. His father got the idea from a conversation with an army officer. After completing his studies in Jodhpur, Amit received his bachelor’s degree in electronics and communications from MBM College of Engineering in 2011. Amit’s civil service career began in 2013. He also served as a visiting teacher at the engineering college where he studied.

Then starting in 2014, he started his UPSC exam preparation journey. In 2014, he succeeded in the preliminaries for the first time, but missed the main event. But later he realized his mistake and tried five times in succession. Then all the main exams were conducted and five interviews were conducted. However, success may only come with the right time and adequate preparation. The same thing happened and he succeeded on his sixth try. Amit told him that he completed six attempts and passed all the preliminary rounds. Then passed five power exams. He then gave four UPSC CSE interviews and one IFS interview and finally cleared the interview. Hence his place on the final roster.

Meanwhile, in 2017, he successfully passed the Rajasthan Civil Service Examination and worked as an Accounts Officer in the Government of Rajasthan till 2019. Until 2017, Amit had focused solely on the UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE), but in 2018, he also started preparing for the Indian Forest Service (IFS) exam, which he eventually passed. In 2019, Amit achieved his primary goal by securing 67th rank in the UPSC IFS examination. Besides, he was selected into Delhi Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) with AIR 672 from UPSC CSE.

His experience also inspired his brother Shishir Ghemawat to pursue a career in civil services and he is now an IAS officer from MP cadre and cleared the exam in the second attempt in 2017. In an interview with Indian Masterminds, he said that the journey had many ups and downs, but overall, it was an interesting experience that added a lot of color to my life. My knowledge has grown and my horizons have broadened. I learned a lot on this journey.
