In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, the United States has deported 54 people from Haryana who allegedly entered the country through the infamous ‘donkey route’, police officials said on Sunday. The deported youths arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Terminal 3, on flight OAE-4767, before being handed over to their families, NDTV reported.

According to Haryana Police, of those deported, 16 are from Karnal, 15 from Kaithal, five from Ambala, four each from Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra, three from Jind, two from Sonipat and one each from Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak and Fatehabad.

Most of these men are between 25 and 40 years of age. Authorities said they were living in the US without valid documents after entering illegally through multiple countries, often paying large sums of money to human traffickers.

Confirming the development, Karnal Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandeep Kumar said, “Today, more Indians were deported from the United States, including 50 from Haryana and around 16 from Karnal district. These individuals, from various villages and towns, had entered the US illegally.”donkey route‘ But today he was deported. Karnal Police told the media that about 16 people who had gone to America via the ‘Donkey Route’ have been deported.

“The Karnal police brought them back and handed them over to their families. He said no complaints had been received in relation to any of the agents. He advised against anyone attempting to go abroad illegally, stressing that this was the wrong approach that would lead to significant problems later on.” Police said that the investigation is going on and if anyone has a criminal record then it will come out during the investigation.

,donkey route‘ is an informal term for a risky and illegal route often used by migrants to reach countries such as the US or UK. This usually involves traveling through several countries in Latin America or Europe before attempting to enter the borders of the destination country without documentation.

Many people taking this route face extreme hardships, including exploitation by smugglers, dangerous terrain, and constant risk of arrest or death.

Police sources said the deportees were briefly interrogated upon arrival before being released to their families. So far, no formal complaint has been filed against any local agent, but officials have indicated that further investigation may expose smuggling networks operating in Haryana and Punjab.

This deportation has happened amid the tough stance of the US government illegal immigrationA policy that gained greater attention during the presidency of Donald Trump and continues under strict border enforcement measures.

Earlier this year, hundreds of Indians, especially from northern states, were deported from the US for violatingimmigration lawOr overstaying your visa.

Meanwhile, in a separate but related development, the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was deported from the United States after completing legal formalities. According to NDTV report, Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Titaram village of Kaithal, was handling the extortion and firing racket from the US in Haryana and Punjab under the direction of Anmol Bishnoi since 2022.

According to officials, Singh has a long criminal record and several cases are registered against him in Sonipat, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, Kaithal and Ambala. Both Look Out Circular (LOC) and Red Corner Notice (RCN) were issued against him in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
