Panaji, Goa:
Twenty suspects have been arrested for questioning after a five-year-old girl was found raped and murdered at a construction site in Vasco, south Goa, on Friday morning, a senior police officer said.
South police chief Sunita Sawant told reporters that she was found unconscious at a construction site in Wadham area early that morning and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
“The post-mortem report confirmed that she was sexually assaulted and strangled. A case of rape and murder was registered under the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act and Goa Children Act,” the SP said.
“Vasco police have rounded up around 20 suspects, most of whom are workers living nearby. Further investigations are ongoing,” she added.
