Festive attire is usually synonymous with sequins, velvet and classic red nails.
But if you’re looking for something new that either barely exists or is absolutely seasonal, there are plenty of manicure trends to choose from.
According to nail artists, there’s a way to do both without resorting to cliché.
So, here are the five key looks to ask for at your next nail appointment at Christmas time.
1. Seasonal French
French The manicure has come back into fashion last year, but it’s getting a seasonal upgrade for Christmas.
Manchester based manicurist joe whittle She says her favorite option is “ombré” or a colored French tip in a seasonal color like deep red.
“You can also pick up a fabulous French tip that will get you into the New Year’s celebration too!”
It’s a subtle twist but still office-friendly and works on both long and short nails.
Wanting a more concise description this winter. Award Winning Nail Artist Jessica White, Founder Blank Studio says that “transparent, milky nudes dressed with a fine gold micro-tip” has been one of her most requested looks.
For those who don’t want to fully commit to Christmas nail art, this is the ideal middle ground with just enough festivity.

2. Cool luxury colors
While festive nail palettes usually revolve around glitter, this season takes a more “sober” approach.
“This year I’m loving a cool luxury approach to festive nails, with more soft, polished tones that add a hint of depth, like deep mulled-wine red or velvety plum,” says White.
Instead of neutral beige, these are rich, earthy colors that reflect winter wardrobes like the color of the season – burgundy. They’re subtle but seasonal and easily fit into everyday looks, even after Christmas dinner.

3. Frosted Chrome
At the bolder end of the spectrum, Whittle says, “Magnetic gels are a must. They can be found in a huge range of colors that can also be layered for different effects.”
Cat-eye nails – reflective manicures that mimic a cat’s eye – are everywhere for Christmas 2025.
chrome is also back, but more sophisticated than the late 2010s. White says she’s “loving the return of the ‘frozen chrome’ look with an icy, mirror-like finish in silver or light blue tones.”
The frosty result feels wintry even without the classic Christmas feel.
If you want to go even bolder with your chrome, Whittle also suggests “plaid chrome and Christmas-themed nail art.” […] “Something different on each nail” – a maximalist option but still cohesive when you stick to one color or theme.

4. Velvet finish
Velvet nails – a lightweight light-reflecting effect created with special magnetic powder – are also on the rise.
“I’m seeing more clients asking for velvet nails, which have a soft, lightweight texture and a 3D finish,” explains White.
They’re bold, but not overbearing, and make the perfect festive pairing with a seasonal-inspired outfit.
In terms of colors, green continues to be one of the hottest trending choices this winter, with White saying that “deep emerald green looks fantastic,” in this finish – Ralph Lauren Christmas.

5. Almond shape
When it comes to shape, experts agree that you don’t need extra length to make a festive manicure look beautiful.
White says short, practical nails are back in vogue, “Smaller, more natural shapes are definitely coming back, especially the small almond and soft square. […] Beautiful, low-maintenance and perfect for everyday wear.”
In terms of shape, Whittle says, “The almond nail allows you to do more nail art on each nail. It also softens the overall look of this shape.”
The almond silhouette provides a great canvas for nail art while its soft taper gives even bolder designs a more sophisticated edge.
