3 missing Indian citizens survived in Tehran, Iranian Embassy claims

Three Indian people missing in Iran have been rescued by the Tehran police, the Iranian embassy in India claimed on Tuesday.

The Iranian embassy said in its X post, “Three missing Indian citizens were freed from Tehran police. Local media in Iran says the police have found three Indian men and went missing in Iran.”

According to a report by Iran’s Meher News Agency (MNA), “The kidnapping of three Indian men was informed to the Tehran police on 1 May.”

All three people from Punjab reached Iran on 1 May, while on the way to Australia. A local travel company promised him well -paying jobs in Australia. However, he went missing soon after reaching Iran.

The Iranian embassy in India earlier said on 29 May that the case was under investigation. The case of three Indian citizens was being followed, in coordination with the relevant judicial officials by the Consular Affairs Department of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, MNA said.

Meher News, citing another Tehran-based news agency, said that the three people were rescued in a police operation against their prisoners in Varmin, a city in southern Tehran.

Meanwhile, India also confirmed on May 29 that it was in touch with the Iranian officials to locate the three missing citizens and had received good support from the Iranian side, said Randhir Jaywal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Addressing a press briefing, Jaiswal said, “We are helping all possible help for family members of three persons who are missing.”

The Indian Embassy in Iran had said that the family members of the missing men informed them after the three disappeaned after a visit to Iran.

In an X statement, the Indian Embassy said, “Family members of 3 Indian citizens have informed India’s embassy that their relatives are missing after traveling to Iran. The embassy strongly handled the matter with Iranian officials, and requested that the missing Indians should be immediately detected and their security should be updated regularly.
