3 cops held, 3 suspended, 2 removed from post in a week

Uttar Pradesh Police has taken action against eight policemen — such as suspension, removal from postings, and even arrest — posted in three districts of western UP this week on the charges of rape, molestation, assault, etc., against them.

In the first case, a sub-inspector (S-I) was arrested and sent to jail in Agra on Tuesday for allegedly raping a woman after scaling the wall of her house late in the night on September 17, while two policemen accused of shielding him were suspended, police said.

The second case took place in Sambhal, where Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Gunawat suspended and ordered the arrest of two police constables on Wednesday evening for allegedly following the car of a woman S-I on her way home after duty earlier in the day. “Both constables Constables Pawan Chaudhary and Ravindra Kumar were suspended, booked and arrested,” the SP said.

In the third case, the in-charge of a police outpost was suspended and a deputy superintendent of police and an inspector were removed from their posts following protests over alleged inaction in a rape case in Rampur district.
