3 arrested for sexually assaulting minor girl in Dum Dum near Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 2 (IANS) Three youths have been arrested for raping a minor in Dumdum area on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, police said on Sunday. Police said that this incident happened on the evening of November 1.

It has been learned that the minor girl, resident of Dumdum, is a seventh class student. She had gone to a private tuition on Saturday evening. While returning he met a friend.

It is learned that they sat and talked for a long time in Kamalapur Park. Later two more persons joined it.

It is alleged that after this the three friends forcibly took the minor girl in a battery operated auto rickshaw. She tried her best to escape, but she could not succeed.

The accused took the minor girl to Harijan Basti, Motilal Colony No. 2, where she was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in a hut.

According to the police, the 14-year-old girl somehow escaped from the accused and returned home. The family became suspicious after seeing him in such a condition.

When her parents applied pressure, the victim narrated her ordeal. The victim lodged a written complaint at Dumdum police station late on the night of November 1.

On the basis of his complaint, the police have arrested three accused youths. The victim’s family has demanded strict punishment for the arrested accused.

The arrested youth will be produced in Barrackpore court where the police will demand their custody.

A senior officer of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate said, “As soon as we received the complaint from the minor’s family, our officers swung into action. The three accused youths have been arrested. A case has been registered under relevant sections related to gang rape and forcible confinement. Their custody will be sent to the South. The entire matter is under investigation.”

On Sunday morning, local BJP workers and supporters protested outside Dum Dum police station demanding strict action against the culprits.

It is noteworthy that in a similar incident on Friday evening, a minor girl was raped by two minor boys at the residence of a home tutor in Suri in Birbhum district. Based on the complaint of the 14-year-old girl, the police arrested both the minor boys.
