A 28-year-old man in China won a huge lottery jackpot of 680 million yuan ($96 million) by betting on the same set of seven numbers every time.according to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the largest lottery jackpot in the country. The winner, whose name has not yet been revealed, is a small business owner from Guizhou Province in southwestern China. He bought 133 lottery tickets at 28 cents each, betting on the same set of seven numbers each time. He won $725,000 on each ticket, the outlet reported.

The winner will claim their prize on February 7th. According to the personal income tax law, lottery winners are required to pay tax on one-fifth of their total winnings. Notably, the man won $96 million in lottery tickets, breaking the Chinese record of $80 million won by a man living in Beijing in 2012.

I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep,” he said. Early the next morning, the man drove to Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, to collect his winning check.

“I have been studying the trends of numbers that have appeared in previous winning tickets and I have chosen some of them and added a lucky number of my own to bet on. I have been betting on this set of numbers for a long time. I will share this It brings good news to the family during the Spring Festival,” the man added.

Meanwhile, in December last year, a Chinese man won $30 million (Rs 248 crore) in the lottery and sparked online discussions when he decided not to tell his wife or children about his win. The man, Li from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bought 40 lottery tickets, each containing the same seven numbers, for 80 yuan ($11). All seven numbers matched and the man won the jackpot. He accepted the award on October 24 and even donated 5 million yuan ($684,992) to charity.

But after winning the jackpot, the man decided not to tell his wife and children because he thought they would “swell up inside” and stop trying. “I didn’t tell my wife or children. I was worried that they might feel superior to others and not work or study hard in the future,” the outlet quoted the man as saying.
