27 hectares of forest fire in Kavatha lakes

The emergency crew in Kavartha lakes is working to knock a “important forest fire” in the burnt river area.

Officials say the fire has turned 27 hectares from Friday and was “actively burning” by Sunday evening.

City officials wrote in a press release, “The support of air water, including water bombers, is scheduled to continue, targeting the most active fire zone,” the city officials have written in a press release. “Tanker trucks are drawing water from local lakes to complement fire fighting efforts on the ground.”

Officials say the fire is burning in a heavy wooden area, where snow storm damage has “left a dangerous area that makes the deployment of the hose particularly challenging.”

No withdrawal order has been issued at this time, but the fire crew says they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide another update on Monday, August 11, 2025.

“Residents and visitors are urged to avoid the burnt river area,” officials said.

A road on County Road 121 and Bari’s Green is closed on County Road 49.

Officials say this is the third important fire in the last week and extremely dry conditions are stressing fire fighting resources.

The total fire restriction in Kavrath lakes is in effect.

“If you see smoking, immediately report it to the fire rescue on 705-324-2191 in Kavarth lakes.” Officials said. “Do not operate the drone near active fire areas. It is illegal and causes serious risk to both air and ground crew.”
