Nainital senior police officer Prahlad Meena said 25 more people were arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with the violence in Haldwani. Most of the arrests were made within Nainital district limits.

The NSA said ammunition allegedly looted from Banbhoopura police station has also been recovered. Asked whether the arrests included Abdul Malik, the main defendant in the case, the National Security Agency said he would also be arrested soon.

Malik allegedly built the illegal structure and its demolition sparked violence in the town that left six people dead and more than 100 injured, including police and media personnel.

He said 25 more people were arrested, bringing the total number arrested so far to 30. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed determination to deal harshly with those involved in the violence. “We are continuously taking action against goons and unruly elements involved in the violence in Haldwani.

“All rioters have been arrested one after another. The operation against illegal encroachments in the state will not stop,” the chief minister said in a post on X.
