Mumbai, Nov 22 (IANS) Days after the theft at Enrique Iglesias’ concert in Mumbai, there were also reports of expensive phones and high-value gold chains being stolen during American rapper Travis Scott’s concert at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 19. Tardeo police on Saturday said that at least 24 mobile phones and 12 gold chains were reported stolen from the venue, following which cases related to theft and chain snatching were registered.
Officials said 24 persons have contacted police so far, and the number is likely to increase as more concertgoers come forward to report the loss of their expensive equipment.
Police have registered the offense under sections 303 (theft) and 304 (snatching) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and seven FIRs have been registered so far.
Authorities believe the theft was carried out by a “coordinated gang” that typically targets large gatherings, using dense crowds and high-energy atmospheres to steal expensive phones and jewellery.
Officials said such gangs often keep an eye on areas like BKC, Mahalaxmi and Goregaon, where big events are often held.
Investigators said the incidents occurred between 7.30 pm and 10.30 pm, during and immediately after the concert, when footfall was at its peak.
He said limited CCTV coverage inside the ground posed a challenge, but footage from entry and exit points as well as surrounding areas was being examined to identify the suspects.
The November 19 event drew an unusually large crowd of fans eager to see Travis Scott perform live.
Police personnel were present to control the crowd, but due to the huge crowd, there was overcrowding throughout the night.
Surrounded by an electric atmosphere, the concert turned into chaos when an unexpected dispute broke out between some attendees, leading to a deadly confrontation.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information is awaited.
This follows a similar theft at Enrique Iglesias’ concert in Mumbai. The pop singer played two sold-out concerts at the MMRDA Ground in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on October 29 and 30, 2025.
According to Mumbai Police, at least 73 mobile phones worth a total of Rs 23.85 lakh were stolen during the concert in Mumbai and the police have filed 7 First Information Reports (FIRs) regarding the thefts at the concert.
