According to the transportation department of Afghanistan’s Southern Province, a traffic accident occurred in southern Afghanistan, killing at least 21 people and injuring 38 others.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning in Helmand province’s Glashek district, on the main highway between southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces, a statement from the Helmand provincial department said.
Helmand provincial transport official Qadratullah said a motorcycle hit a passenger bus, which then hit a tanker on the other side of the road. He added that an investigation into the accident was ongoing.
Hasatullah Haqqani, spokesman for the Helmand provincial police chief, said that among the 38 injured, 11 were seriously injured and had been sent to the hospital.
Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, mainly due to poor road conditions and careless drivers.
