The first lunar eclipse of 2024 will occur today but will not be visible in South Asian countries.
In a penumbral lunar eclipse, the moon is covered by the Earth’s brighter, or outermost shadow, and is often difficult to observe.
This celestial phenomenon will be visible in the United States, most of Europe, Southern/Eastern Europe, much of Asia, Australia, Africa, and northern and eastern Asia.
According to Pakistan Standard Time (PST), the penumbral lunar eclipse will begin at 09:53 PST. The maximum lunar eclipse will occur at 12:12 PST, and the penumbral eclipse will end on March 25 at 14:32 PST.
The duration of the first lunar eclipse of 2024 will be 4 hours and 40 minutes.
The last partial lunar eclipse visible in Pakistan occurred on October 28 last year.
When the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, it casts a shadow on the Moon’s surface, causing a lunar eclipse. This is an interesting sight because they can only occur during a full moon.
A partial solar eclipse ends when the Moon moves out of the umbra and back into the penumbral shadow.
The moon’s brightness is 10% dimmer than usual.
The event coincides with Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, but will not take place in India or Pakistan.
