The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is the most powerful Pulsar that the manufacturer has produced while the Dominar 400 is the flagship motorcycle for the company.

Both motorcycles use the same 373 cc, liquid-cooled engine.

Bajaj Auto recently launched the much-awaited flagship Pulsar in the Indian market. It is called the Pulsar NS400Z and yes at first people thought that the new motorcycle is very similar to the Pulsar NS200. But then the price of the Pulsar NS400Z was announced and it really made all the difference in terms of people’s perception of the motorcycle.

However, the interesting thing is that Bajaj already has another motorcycle with the same cubic capacity. It is the Dominar 400 which is the flagship motorcycle for the brand. Yes, it might not do a lot of work but it’s still an important motorcycle for the brand. So, how does the new Pulsar NS400Z differ from the Dominar 400?

The Dominar 400 looks like a decent power cruiser. When it was first launched, the market said that the look was inspired by the Ducati Diavel. The Dominar 400 has road presence because of how muscular it looks but then again it was going up against some bigger rivals. The LED headlamps look aggressive, there is a sculpted fuel tank, a set of split seats and even a backrest for the rear pillion.

At the other end of the spectrum lies the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, a bare-bones street fighter. True to its lineage, the NS400Z inherits the aggressive styling DNA of the Pulsar family but now with new lightning bolt LED daytime running lamps at the front. It still comes with a muscular fuel tank and a sharp rear section. Bajaj has retained Pulsar’s iconic LED tail lamp which is instantly recognisable.

The Pulsar 400Z comes with a new digital instrument cluster that not only displays plenty of information but also comes with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and music streaming. Not only that, there are riding modes, ABS modes, ride-by-wire and traction control on offer. When compared, the Dominar 400 only gets a digital instrument cluster.

Both the motorcycles share a few bits like the Pulsar NS400Z uses the same main frame as the Dominar 400 but the subframe is taken from the Pulsar NS200. The swingarm on the Dominar 400 is made of aluminum while the Pulsar NS400Z gets a box-type swingarm. Then there are various braking tools. The NS400Z gets axial-mounted Grimeca brakes while the flagship Bajaj gets more premium, radially-mounted calipers from ByBre. There is also a difference in the weight of both the motorcycles. The NS400Z is 10 kg lighter than the Dominar 400.

Price of Pulsar NS400Z is 1.85 lakh starting, ex-showroom while the Dominar 400 price 2.31 lakh ex-showroom. Hence, the Pulsar also manages to undercut the Dominar by a large margin.
