Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said flights across the Channel were running and increasing rapidly, sending a message to migrants trying to enter Britain by small boats that “if you come here illegally, you will be detained and removed, so think twice before travelling”.
Ms Mahmood said: “We must end these dangerous crossings which put lives at risk and put money into the pockets of criminal gangs.
“The contrast could not be more stark. The previous government’s Rwanda plan took years and cost millions of pounds, and failed to remove even a single person by force.
“In just a few weeks, we are back to 26 through our historic agreement with France.
“Now that flights to France are running and ramping up, we are sending a clear message: If you come here illegally, you will be detained and deported, so think twice before traveling.”
