Aurangabad:
A 16-year-old student at a madrassa in Maharashtra faced brutal corporal punishment not only from his teacher but also from his peers. His crime – alleged theft of a watch worth Rs 100.
The student from Surat was admitted to Jamia Burhanul Uloom Madrasa in Aurangabad, which has recently been renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The disturbing incident came to light when the teenager allegedly stole an automatic watch from a nearby shop. The theft incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Upon discovering the theft, the shopkeeper immediately lodged a complaint, due to which the stolen goods were recovered. However, the situation took a serious turn when the cleric of the madrasa, identified as Maulana Syed Omar Ali, decided to give “brutal punishment” to the young student. The teenager was stripped half-naked, spat on and systematically beaten by his fellow students, all allegedly under the orders of the Maulvi.
The incident was recorded on camera, and the footage eventually reached the victim’s family, who wasted no time in filing a complaint with the local police. A case was registered against the Maulvi and he was booked under the Minor Students Protection Act.
The minors who took part in the attack were later given counseling, while legal proceedings against the cleric are ongoing.
