Hyderabad, Nov 3 (IANS) At least 15 people were killed and several others injured in a collision between an RTC bus and a truck in Telangana’s Rangareddy district on Monday.
The accident occurred around 6.30 am on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal.
The bus coming from Tandur to Hyderabad was hit by a truck laden with concrete coming from the opposite direction.
According to eyewitnesses, after the collision, some passengers got buried under the concrete after all the luggage fell on the bus.
13 passengers traveling in the bus died in the collision. The dead included drivers of both bus and truck.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus was reportedly carrying 70 people.
Several passengers were injured and admitted to the government hospital at Chevella, where the condition of three of them is said to be critical.
Heartbreaking scenes were seen as many injured people trapped under the debris were screaming for help. The police took out the injured with the help of local people.
Three JCBs were pressed into service as part of efforts to rescue the injured.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed grief over the road accident. He directed the officials to immediately reach the accident site and take relief measures.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered officials to initiate relief measures and provide best possible medical care to the injured.
This is the second major road accident in the Telugu states in less than 10 days.
On October 24, 20 people were burnt to death when a private bus caught fire after crushing a motorcycle lying on the road following an accident near Kurnool city in Andhra Pradesh. The bus of a private tour operator was going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru.
