139 vehicle owners in Mizoram have got BH series numbers from 2022, mostly frequent travelers

The Mizoram government has issued BH (India) series registration numbers to 139 applicants from September 2022, state transport department officials said.

The BH series, a pan-India vehicle registration, was introduced by the Center in August 2021 and came into effect on September 15 that year.

Officials said that for the first time in the state, BH series number was issued on September 1, 2022 and since then 139 vehicles have been registered under it.

He said the beneficiaries were mainly government and private sector employees, who frequently visited different states across the country.

He said, though there are many applicants, only eligible candidates were considered who had the required documents as sought as per Rule 47 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Officials said BH series numbers can be given only to central and state government employees, defense personnel and private sector employees whose offices have more than five branches in the country.

He said some rules were changed last year, including the provision of issuing BH series numbers for only one vehicle per person.
