12 Pakistani fishermen killed as boat capsizes in Arabian Sea: military

Pakistan is overcrowded and fatal traffic accidents are common (representative)

Lahore:

Twelve Pakistani fishermen have died after their boat capsized in the Arabian Sea, the military said on Wednesday, while the navy was searching for two people who are still missing.

The fishing boat sank on March 5, and rescuers deployed helicopters, boats and speedboats to search and rescue the fish in the waters of southern Sindh province.

“The bodies of 12 fishermen have been recovered,” Army Public Relations said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The search for the remaining two missing fishermen continues.”

Fatal traffic accidents are common in Pakistan, where overcrowding and safety measures are lax.

The military earlier said the ship, with 45 crew members on board, capsized in the high seas near Hajamulo Creek near the Indian border “due to adverse weather conditions.”

Pakistan’s recreational and work boats are often overloaded, making them top-heavy and prone to capsizing.
