100% online broadcast of Punjab polling stations: official

Polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be held on June 1.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said on Tuesday that 100% live webcasting will be achieved at all polling stations in the state during the Lok Sabha polls to be held on June 1.

The Chief Electoral Officer also said that flying squad vehicles and static surveillance teams are monitoring violations of the model code of conduct, if any, during the electoral process.

All 24,433 polling stations in the state will be equipped with CCTV surveillance, he said in a statement.

Besides, cameras will be installed outside 1,884 polling stations in all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies, the CEO said.

Sibin C said they launched the improved next-generation District Information System for Elections (DISE) this time.

It will be used in all aspects of managing elections, from collecting data on poll workers to scheduling rehearsals, randomly assigning poll workers and counting staff, he said, adding that this modernization aims to make elections more efficient, transparent and Safety.

Sibin C said the Polling Activity Management System (PAMS) used to deploy polling teams and update voting information such as polling opening and closing times voter queue status has also been improved to increase the efficiency of election-related activities.

The CEO also said that other innovative initiatives by the Election Commission of India include the Voter Helpline App, which facilitates citizens to find their name in the electoral roll, submit online forms, download digital photo voter slips , file a complaint and receive a response.

Another important initiative, he said, is the mobile app “Know Your Candidate,” which allows voters to access details and criminal background of any candidate.

The statement said the app aims to provide wider publicity and raise awareness of the criminal backgrounds of election candidates to ensure transparency in elections.

The CEO said other initiatives by the ECI include the launch of cVIGIL, a voter-friendly mobile app that enables people to report MCC violations with live photos or videos with location.

Any citizen can lodge a complaint through the mobile app, after which a flying squad will investigate the matter and the electoral officer will use GPS to track the location of the violation and take a decision within 100 minutes.
