Aldrin was the Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 11, the first manned mission to land on the moon.

Aldrin’s role as the Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 11 was critical for the success of the mission. In this role, he was responsible for operating the Eagle lunar module and helping to ensure that its systems were running correctly. He also piloted the Eagle from its launch from the Command and Service Modules to its landing on the moon’s surface, becoming one of two humans to ever set foot on our celestial neighbor.

Aldrin’s commitment to becoming an astronaut is second to none. His career in space started with a doctorate degree at MIT, where he wrote a dissertation focused on how to plan and execute a multi-day mission in space. He went on to serve as an Air Force Officer during the Korean War, where his achievements earned him numerous awards and decorations. After that, he pursued his dream of going into space – which came true when he was selected as part of the third group of astronauts for NASA’s Project Gemini. Aldrin made history again as the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 11’s moon landing mission, becoming one of the first humans ever to walk on the lunar surface.
