Jaipur, 22 September (IANS) on Monday a major tragedy in Khatuli area of Kota district of Rajasthan, when a group of teenagers were swept away due to a strong stream of Parvati river near Chhurari Dham, police said.
Seven youths entered the river to bathe, out of which three floated for security, while four others were swept away in the river.
The body of a young man has been recovered, and the search operation is still going on for the other three missing boys.
According to local sources, a group of seven to eight teenagers between 16 and 17 years of age, all, had gone to a religious place near Balupa village, to bathe in Chhuri Dham.
While enjoying himself and allegedly taking selfies in water, a boy slipped into a deep stream.
In a desperate attempt to save him, others jumped, but the strong flow of river water was washed away by four of them.
The villagers immediately reached the spot and started a search operation.
The body of a teenager, known as Sonu, was taken out of the river.
However, three others – Mohit, Ashfaq, and Ayush – are inaccessible.
In the form of rescue teams, nervousness and grief spread in the area, intensifying efforts to detect missing boys.
On receiving the information, Etawah Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Shivam Joshi reached the site and coordinated with the local administration.
Teams of SDRF and NDRF were sent from Kota and are searching extensively with the help of villagers and local divers.
DSP Joshi said that intensive discovery is being done with Riverbank and the surrounding areas.
Local people revealed that Sandi Dham has seen similar accidents in the past due to the unexpected and powerful present of the Parvati river.
Despite repeated warnings, people often enter the river for bathing and entertainment.
Villagers said that a group of teenagers had come on Monday morning and reached far away in deep water, having fun in water.
The administration has issued an appeal, urging people to avoid excessive caution along the river bank and deep water swimming and photography.
The rescue operations are still ongoing, and there are high expectations for safe recovery of missing boys.
